Universitat Rovira i Virgili: Interview with the Facility Manager

Energy Management in Universities

This is a DEXMA customer success story, Universitat Rovira i Virgili (URV) using our energy management software DEXCell Energy Manager on its campus. We interviewed the Facility Manager in URV so he could explain their experience with us.

URV:

We wanted to know exactly where we were. With the energy bills we could know our consumption as well, but we didn’t know specifically which was the building’s performance. Therefore, with DEXMA’s solution we could keep track this performance and analyse the different time-of-use periods so we could understand which energy efficient measures to use in each of our facilities.

DEXMA:

How much time is needed to choose the right solution?

URV:

In fact, you don’t need much time to choose your own method, since the facilities, from the electric point of view, are already in use. Moreover, in most of the contexts there are already management systems installed. If this first step is already achieved, the incorporation of a new efficient method is relatively quick.

DEXMA:

How does DEXCell Energy Manager help in operating such a big project?

URV:

It is essential for us, since our centres are really scattered and spread throughout the territory. When it comes to manage several buildings, if you don’t have a system that allows you to control all of them together in the same setting, it’s practically unbearable.

DEXMA:

Do you think it is critical to have real-time data available in an energy efficient program?

URV:

It is very important from the point of view of responsiveness in buildings with high levels of energy consumption. If we have real-time data we can operate avoiding high expenses in huge centres like our campus.

DEXMA:

What are the results you have seen so far?

URV:

The results are positive because we can gather the information along several years and analyse them depending on the climatology and the efficiency that we have been putting in place in our facilities.
